Swiss German in writing – differences and peculiarities

Today we will present you the features of Swiss German in writing.

In Swiss German, do not use Eszett (ß). The latest Eszett was used in Switzerland on November 4, 1974 in the NZZ newspaper. Instead, they write simply “ss”.
In Switzerland, French quotes are used (“Christmas trees”), and not German quotes (“feet”).
There is a difference in how to spell time. If the Germans write: “12:15”, then in Switzerland they write: “12.15”.
Thousands are not written through the full stop (345.000), but through a superscript comma (345,000).
