Preparation for the TELC exam

TELC Deutsch – modern language test

The TELC exam is a fairly new version of the knowledge test, but its popularity is growing rapidly. So much so that he is already the main “competitor” of the famous examinations of the Goethe Institute. The author of the testing system is TELC GmbH, a non-profit organization with headquarters in Frankfurt am Main. By the way, this organization is the general partner of the German government (as opposed to the Goethe Institute). She specializes in developing language tests for migrants. They are supposed to pass after the course of integration.

TELC Exam: General Information

TELC Deutsch tests are created with a focus on the list of pan-European competencies. After successfully passing the examiner receives a TELC Deutsch certificate. He confirms possession of German in the conventional 6-level system. According to some people, preparing for the TELC Deutsch certification exam and passing it is more difficult than tests from the Goethe Institute. But there are those who argue the opposite. It can be concluded that the level of complexity is optimal, everything else depends on individual preferences. According to experts, the TELC Deutsch test is similar in difficulty to other relevant tests. The systems are the same, and the test concerns the same knowledge and skills. The certificate is generally equal to others. It is generally accepted proof of proficiency in the German language. The TELC Deutsch examination includes four modules: accordingly, in the process of preparation and delivery, it is necessary to confirm the skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing.

Variants of language competence test

There are quite a few variants of the TELC Deutsch tests. In addition to the general, there are narrowly focused, confirming certain professional skills of the examinee. Here are some examples:

  1. TELC Deutsch A1. Confirmation of the initial level of the German language. Exam preparation takes an average of 150 academic hours. There is a view: A1 Junior (for children under 12 years).
  2. TELC Deutsch A2 test. Preparation takes about 300 academic hours. Options: A2 + (for employment at a qualified position), Schule (for middle and high school students).
  3. Certificate B1. There are basic exam and types: B1 + (employment in an international company), Schule.
  4. B2. The TELC certificate of this level gives the right to enter universities in Germany. Options: B2 +, Medizin Zugangsprüfung (for health workers), B2-C1 Medizin (for doctors).
  5. C1 – high level certificate. Gives access to admission to all universities. Recently appeared Modifiziertes Format – an exam aimed at the specifics of professional activity. And the Hochschule surrender opens up the possibility of conducting research work in German.
  6. C2 – preparation for the exam and successful passing confirm the level, like a native German speaker.

These are not all types of certificates, but the logic is clear: there are general certificates, and there are specialized ones aimed at confirming language knowledge in a particular industry. There are tests that need to pass, already living for some time in Germany.
