Where is cheap and expensive in Germany?

Let’s start with expensive cities

The most expensive city in Germany was Munich. The cost per square meter of housing – 21 euro per month. Consequently, for a two-room apartment here it is necessary to give about 1300 euros per month. Munich is followed by Frankfurt am Main (14,50 € / m²), followed by Stuttgart (13,90 € / m²), Hamburg and Cologne with an average housing price of around 13 € / m². Going to a hairdresser in one of these cities is an average of 34.52 euros.

Naturally, salaries in these cities on average are also higher, but not so much as to feel as comfortable as if you were getting an average salary in one of the cheapest cities.

But when it comes to inexpensive and relatively large cities (not villages), the Magdeburg (5,6 € / m²), Recklinghausen (5,56 € / m²), Remscheid (5,51 € / m²) , Duisburg (5,50 € / m²), Herne (5,46 € / m²), Gelsenkirchen (5,21 € / m²), Hagen (5,20 € / m²), Chemnitz (5 € / m²). All these cities are cities with a population of 150 to 500 thousand people.

Strangely enough, Berlin does not include in the list of the most expensive cities in Germany; rental housing costs an average of 11 € / m² per month. As the experience of cities with a large number of migrants shows, they are rarely expensive. Many students prefer to study in such cities as Rostock, Erfurt, Bochum, Duisburg, Essen, etc. The cost of renting housing in such cities is 6-9 € / m², and the quality and prestige of educational institutions are not inferior to the fact that they are located in large and expensive cities.

Often, students hope that they will be able to live without much spending, even in Hamburg and Frankfurt am Main. If you have rice with salt and do not buy meat with vegetables, then you can live for 100 euros a month. But such a strategy never justifies itself in practice. In cities that are more expensive, more expensive than everything: travel, food, clothes. The cost of renting is not the only criterion. And in cities it is smaller and it is easier to find work, and distracting factors are less.
